This position is for a part time direct support staff for a cheerful young man with autism in the Archdale-High Point area. The direct support staff would provide one-on-one community living supports, and mentorship to this individual with intellectual disabilities. You would work in the home and community settings to foster independence, social skills and safety, acting as a companion while implementing personalized care goals. The days needed are Monday and Friday from 9am-6pm. The young man volunteers every day, takes art lessons daily and goes to the gym every day, so he is very active and enjoys being out in the community and learning how to be independent. He has his own little apartment and is learning to take care of his place and you would help him in mastering those skills needed to keep it tidy, learn to cook for himself and other self help/living skills.
Key Responsibilities:
SKILL TRAINING:Assist the individual in learning new life skills, personal care and social skills to live independently.
BEHAVIORAL/SOCIAL SUPPORT: Promote client outcomes in social and vocational realms
COMMUNITY INTEGRATION: Facilitate community networking and social/leisure activities.
DOCUMENTATION: Complete required, timely and accurate documentation on goal progress and daily activities.
SAFETY/TRANSPORT: Transport individual safely to community locations and ensure constant supervision.
COLLABORATION: Work with family and care team to follow the Person Centered Plan for the individual.
Job Requirements:
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: Experience with this population is preferred, however, a patient, kind individual who has the right mindset and ability to learn to help the young man achieve goals would receive any training required to be successful.
RELIABILITY: Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and auto insurance.
REQUIREMENTS: Must pass a criminal background check.
SKILLS: Strong communication skills and patience to support client in reaching their full potential.
This position is being advertised by this young man's family, but the person who would fulfill this position would work directly for a home health type agency who provides all trainings and support. Additional hours may be available with other young people in similar situations if you desire more days or hours doing this sort of support work. The agency will provide your wages, but the family does offer fringe benefits outside of those wages..(gas, food $ etc.)
